The art of the trade show giveaway, explained.
Trade shows, love or hate them they are an important part of the business marketing world.
I will assume you have your booth ready to go and your products or services are neatly displayed in the booth. We will also assume you have an informed staff with lots of caffeine infused products on hands so they can keep it up from 9 am until the show closes at 6 PM. Then they hopefully will have energy left to work the after hours crowd.
If you have all the above lined up have you got your trade show giveaways?
Ok, think this through. You’ve spent a minimum of $10k on the booth and show space. You and 3 of your staff have flown to Vegas (show location) at a cost of $1400. Then the 2 rooms for 5 nights for another $2400. PLUS food and drink, another $2000. Total $15,800.
Now you know you need swag to give away but you are thinking $500 max! Are you out of your mind!
The purpose of trade show giveaways aka SWAG!
Put yourself in your customers and potential customers shoes. There are some very tired, sore feet in those shoes as they have just walked over 10,000 steps on the average trade show day.
The target customer is tired, they have listened to dozens of similar sales people tell them how great their product or service is and now they are going to talk with you. Why should they?
SWAG purpose #1. Thank you.
The oldest and still the most consistent reason for trade show giveaways is a thank you to the client as they leave as a show of appreciation for coming and listening. simple.
SWAG purpose #2. Your logo, message and contact info.
The giveaway should always have your logo and IMO should always have your web site url at the very least.
So often people leave the show and are at the bar or on the plane or even back home and they get to talking between themselves, “remember that vendor who had those lined pipes with the integral shut off valve?”
“I think so, the guys from Wisconsin? or was it Indiana? Who were they again? This scenario has played out millions of times in history.
Don’t spend all of that money on a booth, travel, food, rooms and NOT GIVE THE CLIENT SOME WAY TO REMEMBER YOU?
Swag purpose #3. Give them something they want and will use.
In 2020, DON’T GIVE PEOPLE A CRAPPY LEAKY PEN, THEY DO NOT WANT IT!
It drives me crazy that in 2020 some business marketers are still buying pens with their logo on them. Stop it, you’re smarter than that. Pens leak, no one writes anymore and it speaks volumes about how unimaginative your marketing department is when they give away pens.
We strongly suggest that you give people a pop phone socket grip. It is reusable, incredibly popular and has a very coveted branding location, on their smartphone. Call 1-888-880-2714 for live US based customer support. Email Sloan
